Sexual Perversity in Chicago
by David Mamet
November 5 - 22, 2009
“Sexual Perversity” follows the love affair of Danny and Deborah,
twenty-somethings whose awkward fumblings toward love are poisoned by
the advice and commentary of Bernie and Joan, their respective best
friends. Mamet forces us to examine our society’s attitudes toward love
and romance, where the idea of a stable, committed relationship has
become a modern-day perversity.
Orphans by Lyle Kessler
March 18 - April 4, 2010
First produced by the famed Steppenwolf Theatre, Orphans
is the story of two brothers - Phillip, a wildchild naïf whose
illiteracy and innocence belie a feral intelligence; and Treat, a
switchblade-wielding thief who manipulates his brother into remaining
dependent on him. Into this den of dysfunction comes Harold, a
not-so-legitimate businessman who takes the "Dead End Kids" under his tutelage. At its core, Orphans is a warped father-and-son story, with all of the realism and none of the saccharine.
Coyote on a Fence by Bruce Graham
June 10 - 27, 2010
In June, the Alliance presents the south Florida premiere of Coyote on a Fence by Bruce Graham
This "thought-provoking work about man's inhumanity to man" (The Stage)
examines capital punishment through the differing viewpoints of two
death-row inmates. John, a well-educated liberal who rages against the
practice that will end his life at the point of a hypodermic needle,
gets a new cell-mate: Bobby, an unabashed racist and anti-Semite who
looks at his execution as the gateway to the God who told him to kill.
The House of Yes by Wendy MacLeod
November 4 - 21, 2010
Novemebr brings the American cult classic The Hosue of Yes by Wendy MacLeod.
"...A fascinating blend of frivolous family politics and menacing
political allegory....It is wickedly funny, disturbing and vividly
written....MacLeod writes funny, frightening dialogue, and she touches
the nerve of our cozy, vicarious involvement with acts of public
violence" --San Francisco Chronicle
"Gripping, funny and worth its reputation." --Time Out, London
"MacLeod
gets us there with a fertile and original screwball voice that puts her
in a league with such erudite young satirists of America's privileged
class as Nicky Silver and Richard Greenberg." --Newsday
